Vision of the Phoenix

See before you a large seven-circuit labyrinth, the type which is associated with the Greek Island of Crete and King Minos. Before walking a labyrinth it helps to be aware of five things: First, you will never get lost in a labyrinth for it is not a maze, there are no false turns or dead ends. Second, you must focus your attention, honor yourself and your fellow Brothers by choosing to be fully present on your journey. Third, know your intention for walking this labyrinth. What is it that you seek from this journey? Fourth, shed expectations of what you think should happen. Be open to the possibilities that are present in the moment. Last take stock of how you are feeling, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Walk the long winding path back and forth. Each step focuses your mind, body and spirit. Your soul awakens as you walk and you see a large bonfire at the center of the labyrinth. The fire calls for release and promises transformation. You hear the sound of beating wings from overhead. You look upwards and see the largest and most beautiful bird that you have ever seen. You look into its eyes see within them a familiarity, which strikes you to the core, yet at the same time those eyes contain the deepest mysteries of the Universe. A voice speaks within your head saying ‘I am thee and thou art me.’ The bird’s feathers shimmer in myriad colors. You watch as it descends into the fire and is utterly consumed. Hesitantly you move towards the flames where the bird was. The flames are warm but do not burn you. Instead, you are invigorated with a willpower and strength that is rejuvenating. You feel the divine within and are aflame with the power of spirit. You feel other men step into the flames and watch as they come alive with the knowledge of who they truly are. You are aware of yourself as an individual and as a part of something much larger. Feel the Earth leave from beneath you as you soar upwards to the planets and the stars. Become aware of yourself as the Phoenix.
